FLYING FISH REFLECTION FOR PROJECT SCUBILION 2019

Dear Scouts,

Below are the images and reflection done by Flying Fish patrol on their Project Scubilion 2019:

“During this Scubilion, we went to Townsville Primary School. Since it was the first time the Year 1s have ever gone on something like Project Scubilion, they did not know what to expect. The rest of us also did not know what to expect as it was our first time to teach a language subject to these students. We were quite skeptical if our lesson plan would work as we didn’t know if they understand.
When we were there for the first time teaching them Chinese oral, they did not know how to correctly pronounce different words and had a hard time conveying what they wanted to say to us. However, they were very friendly and wanted to learn from us.
After the 3 sessions we had with them, we could see them improving as they were able to speak much better. Through this activity, we realized how fortunate we were in SJI where we had the resources but we do not know how to cherish. We learnt how to communicate with them and learnt how to teach people who were poor in a subject and this would allow us to become much more confident in speaking to an audience. It allows us to become more outspoken in school presentations and definitely in the public.”

STINGRAY REFLECTION FOR PROJECT SCUBILION 2019

Dear Scouts,

Below are the images and reflection done by Stingray patrol on their Project Scubilion 2019:

“We found this year’s Project Scubilion to be a very meaningful and enjoyable activity. For our Project Scubilion, we went to the Society for the Aged Sick and hosted our own games and activities to entertain the elderly. We carried out many activities such as teaching them basic english vowels and words, puzzles and even singing. We managed to learn a lot from our interactions with the elderly. We found the elderly there to be very inspiring as even though they were all old and some of them were disabled and not in the best of health, they still made the effort to participate in the activities we planned and had a positive attitude towards the activities. We were very satisfied and happy when we saw that we could put a smile on the elderly’s faces, or when we could tell that they were enjoying themselves.

Even though we had to improvise a few times to make the activities more fun for the elderly, it all worked out well in the end and the elderly enjoyed it. We learnt more about the lives of the elderly and how they went about with their lives everyday in the old folk’s home. In addition,we were asked to come back again to help with other activities such as grocery shopping with the elderly. Seeing the happy smiles on the elderly’s faces, we hope to come back again next year to entertain the elderly again.”
